Alan Shulik
Alan Shulik likens his photographic process to painting with the lens of his camera. “I seek out and capture scenes that contain an innate musical quality and resonate with me emotionally.” The resulting images are thrilling and transcendent.
Shulik was first exposed to what he calls, “the magic of photography” in his father’s small darkroom. His early fascination with the printing process has led Shulik to work in a variety of techniques including the precise and technically-demanding palladium print and the classic silver gelatin print. Shulik also utilizes an array of cameras ranging from a large-format 8x10 view camera, to a high-tech digital Leica M-8, to a primitive pinhole camera. “Each camera yields a different result. I allow myself the freedom to move between processes and formats to gain the greatest creative latitude.”
Alan Shulik is an award-winning photographer who has exhibited in over fifty solo and group shows. He is represented by several galleries in the United States and abroad and has been featured in Connecticut Cottages and Gardens and In Focus magazines. Shulik is a member of numerous artist organizations and guilds and has shared his photographic expertise as chair of Spectra: National Photography Competition and the Shoreline Arts Alliance Visual Arts Committee, both in Connecticut.
